Good Times To Be Had In May!

I hope all our little kiddos had a great time at field day! I saw a lot of happy little faces. I am sure there were lots of smiles after testing was over, too! Now on to the May festivities!
Coming up in May we have the 4-H awards day and our Food, Fun & Fitness class. We will also be having our end of the year skate party and the always precious Kindergarten Graduation ceremony. Our very last Scholastic book order for this school year will be due on May 2nd so if you haven’t ordered yet, you’ve only got a few more days! And last, but certainly not least, if you signed up to attend the Symphony Safari, don’t forget to show up! It’s going to be a blast! Hope to see you all at our May activities!

April is Fast Approaching!!

I hope everyone had a great time at the Children’s Museum this week!! I know me and mine did. We missed those who weren’t able to be there. It had been a while since my girls and I had been there and we were pleased to see some new activities as well as some old favorites. The moms of our group seemed more than happy to sit at a table and have our sweet little dears “serve” us for a while! I must say I especially enjoyed when all the little “waiters” gathered around me for their rendition of the “Happy, Happy Birthday, We’re so Glad You Came” song. I felt special to receive such a treat… and it wasn’t even my birthday!! J
Anyway, on to the April activities. We have quite a few events coming up. In addition to our regular 4-H club meeting and Food, Fun & Fitness class we will be having our annual field day activities. The deadline to sign up for that is April 14th. Also in the works is a park play-day. I would love for all the kindergarten graduates to be there so they can get to know each other before their big day. This will also give the moms an opportunity to get all those last minute details worked out. There will also be a re-take day for any graduate who missed having their cap and gown pictures made with the photographer. As a reminder, don’t forget the deadline to sign up for the Symphony Safari is April 11th and if you registered to participate in our standardized testing event, that will begin on April 25th at 9:00. As always, scholastic orders can be placed on line and be sure to send in any pictures you have for the yearbook. If you need additional information on any upcoming events please let me know. I hope all of you have a wonderful and blessed Easter. Celebrate Jesus everyday! J Vicki

Here comes March!!!

Well, I am sorry to say that I missed our wonderful February skate because of illness. I heard it was a great time and I can’t wait to see pictures of all the smiling kiddos!! Speaking of smiling kids, we have our yearbook picture retakes coming up on March 1 so if you need info. on how to get in on that please be sure and let me know. If you have previously signed up for retake day, please check your inbox for a reminder of the location and your appointment time. I really hope we are able to get yearbook pictures of all the kids in the group. We even want to include the babies! (We have 57 kids total) Even if you aren’t interested in buying a package please come out to have a picture made just for the yearbook. It doesn’t matter if you’re new to the group or you’ve been with us all year we want you in the yearbook!! If you aren’t able to make it to retake day just let me know and I’ll find a way to get a picture of you included.
Our next field trip will be to the Children’s Museum so if you’d like more details on that just drop me an e-mail. I hope that as the weather warms up we’ll see more of our members turn out at our field trips. I haven’t seen some of you all year!! J Mom’s need field trips as much or more than the kids so treat yourself to the day off and come out for some fun and fellowship! Let me know if I can be of any help to you! J Vicki

Coming up in February

We had such a great time at our January field trip! It was so nice to visit and laugh with those who attended. Who knew we had such great history buffs in our group? I think the moms had more fun with the scavenger hunt than the kids did. I was so excited to see my kids having a good time learning history!! (Which is most definitely not their favorite subject-maybe it will be now!)
We missed those who weren’t able to be there and hope all our friends who’ve been sick will feel much better soon! I always give out the Scholastic book orders at the field trips so if you didn’t receive one don’t despair. Just log onto www.scholastic.com/bookclubs and browse through the catalogs. You’ll need our class code the first time you log in. Just let me know if you need any help. The order deadline is January 31st and I will have the books you order with me at the next field trip.
I am really looking forward to our February activities. All our club meetings will be held at their regular time and place and we will be having a skate party. Those are always fun. I think they are more fun for the moms because we actually get to sit down for a change! Not to mention all the food and wonderful conversation!!
Please remember to send in your photos for the yearbook. The end of the school year will be upon us soon and it will be very difficult to sort through all the pictures if everyone waits until May to send them. I know you have some great shots so please send them in!
If you have any questions or need details about any event, please just leave a comment below. I look forward to seeing you in February!

January Events

I hope everyone will be rested and refreshed after taking a break for the holidays. Some of you may have had an extremely busy holiday and are looking forward to getting back to school so you can rest! Whatever your case may be please don’t forget about the great events we have this month.
4-H will be getting back into full swing. Regular meetings and Food, Fun, and Fitness classes will resume their regular schedule this month. Also, the Ag Expo will be coming to town and many of our
4-H’ers will be participating. If you get a chance, come out and see what they’ve been up to.
Our field trip this month will be to the Old Courthouse Museum in Vicksburg, Ms. The museum was established in 1948 and showcases many educational and fascinating items. The exhibition space consists of nine rooms which span nearly 15,000 square feet. If we have a group of 10 or more we will be able to get a discount of $2.50 for students and $4.00 per adult. (Without the discount it will be $3 for students and $5 for adults). There is also a gift shop. More information about the museum can be found at their website www.oldcourthouse.org .  Also on their website you can download a scavenger hunt questionnaire for your kids to complete. The museum is located at 1008 Cherry Street in Vicksburg. Also, while at the museum I will have Scholastic book order forms to distribute and any books previously ordered will be ready for pick up.
If you would like more information on any of these activities contact Vicki Kelly at (318)428-9046. I wish all of you a blessed new year and happy schooling! Check back in next month for more activities!

Who is CHILD and what do they do?

For those of you who are just hearing about our group I thought I’d give a little info about who we are and a recap of what we’ve been up to. CHILD is a homeschool support group located in northeast Louisiana that began in 2009 and has been growing ever since. Initially it was simply two friends with an idea who asked the Lord to lead them and now it is a network of friends 25 families strong.
The group currently has 52 children ranging in age from infant to 11th grade and we try to provide them with many exciting and engaging activities. From just August to December of this year we have toured the Chenault Aviation Museum and Monroe Airport, visited the farm animals at Rockin’-R- Ranch, picked pumpkins at Curry Farms, visited the Biedenharn historic home and gardens, Bible Museum, and Coke Museum. We’ve also attended a ballet, gone roller skating, and had a group Christmas party.
In addition to all these activities, this has been a year of many firsts for us. We now have a 4-H group for students 4th-12th grades. Many of the children have participated in specialty classes, photography contests and cooking contests offered by 4-H. Also, we raised money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and had our own fund raiser selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts. There are other events that we would like to add and the possibilities are endless.
Activities that we are carrying over from last year include Scholastic book orders, a group yearbook and Kindergarten Graduation. We hope to update this site each month with current information on our activities. Please check back from time to time to see what we have planned! If you are interested in learning more about our group please visit us here.
